On the world stage, Chinese films also got a boost from broader global distribution both in theaters and via streaming platforms like Netflix.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ranging from comedies to animations, and action movies to deep dramas, these best Chinese movies have not only won the hearts and minds of the Chinese people, but also many viewers around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<h3><b>Crazy Alien<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0China and the US <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">haven\u2019t exactly been on the best of terms in 2019<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Chinese sci-fi comedy Crazy Alien reflected that in a humorous way. The film has America make first contact with an alien, only to let the alien fall into Chinese hands. A Chinese monkey trainer then takes in the alien (thinking it\u2019s an exotic monkey species) to humorous results. Meanwhile, American forces try to capture the alien asset.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2613 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/aini.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/chinese-movie-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"189\" height=\"267\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0While Crazy Alien never ventures beyond slapstick humor, the film is still fairly entertaining. As long as you don\u2019t mind humor at the expense of American pride, Crazy Alien delivers laughter by poking fun at American cultural tropes\u2014ranging from a belief in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American superiority on the world stage<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clandestine violations of other nations\u2019 sovereignty<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<h3><b>Pegasus<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2617 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/aini.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/chinese-movie-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"190\" height=\"266\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Fans of Chinese movies and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">petrolheads<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will delight at Pegasus, popular author <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Han Han<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018s latest cinematic effort. At the center of Pegasus\u2019 redemption narrative is Zhang Chi (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shen Teng<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Goodbye Mr. Loser<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), a former <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rally car racing<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> champion who just emerged from a five year driving ban for illegal <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">street racing<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. His life in shambles, Zhang hopes to redeem himself in one last rally competition.However, Zhang Chi has to surpass numerous hurdles ranging from getting his driver\u2019s license back, to building a rally racing car for his competition. While none of these challenges are particularly burdensome, they do provide a good amount of body to the plot of the film. Ultimately though, Pegasus is more about motoring entertainment than dramatic value.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<h3><b>Ne Zha<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0When most moviegoers think of animated films, they usually think of Disney, or the Japanese anime industry. This year, Chinese hit animated movie <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ne Zha<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> showed audiences that China\u2019s animation industry packs a punch as well. The story of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ne Zha<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is based on an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">eponymous deity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Chinese folk religion. However, while the movie draws heavily from the Chinese legend of Ne Zha, it ends up being a much more light-hearted and family-friendly story that omits the gory details of Chinese folklore.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2621 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/aini.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/chinese-movie-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"186\" height=\"272\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0At its core, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ne Zha<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> tells the story of an unruly child (named Ne Zha) who is possessed by a demon spirit. His upright parents attempt to keep Ne Zha from causing too much chaos, but largely fail in keeping Ne Zha from terrorizing local villagers. Ne Zha ultimately tries to redeem himself by battling against a truly evil force alongside his fellow villagers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Perhaps owing to a mix of patriotism among Chinese movie-goers, and the relative <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lack of competition this summer<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ne Zha<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> smashed box office records. It\u2019s now not only the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">highest-grossing animated film<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Chinese history, but also <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one of the top movies across all genres<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A Communist Party mouthpiece even published a piece <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">asking party cadres to \u201cchannel [their] inner Ne Zha.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<h3><b>Send Me to the Clouds<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0China was one of the first nations to proudly proclaim that \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">women hold up half the sky<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d While the People\u2019s Republic of China still lags behind in some aspects of women\u2019s rights, the 2019 film Send Me to the Clouds was an apt movie for a nation keen on improving its feminist credentials. Send Me to the Clouds tells the story of Sheng Nan\u2019s quest to have a \u201cmind-blowing\u201d sexual experience before she undergoes surgery to cure ovarian cancer<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2625\" src=\"https:\/\/aini.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/chinese-movie-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"188\" height=\"268\" \/>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Send Me To The Clouds contains ample commentary about the social pressures Chinese women face. While the pursuit of \u201cmind-blowing\u201d sex is the basis of the film\u2019s plot, the majority of the film concerns itself with gendered social expectations\u2014male and female alike. The men in Sheng Nan\u2019s life pursue materialism to gain the respect of their family members, while Sheng Nan herself struggles to carve out her own meaning of life independent of her mother\u2019s expectations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<h3><b>The Last Sunrise<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If you watched The Last Sunrise, you wouldn\u2019t have guessed that it was shot in 14 days on a budget of US$250,000. In his first feature film, director Wen Ren deftly utilizes every ounce of resource to deliver an extremely thoughtful and touching narrative about two people trying to survive the end of the world.The Last Sunrise is set in a future China that is entirely powered by solar energy. One day, the sun mysteriously disappears, throwing China (and presumably the rest of the world) into complete disarray. Amateur scientist Sun Yang teams up with his neighbor Chen Mu to try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The Last Sunrise also grapples with some tough moral decisions for the pair, artfully depicting the cruel reality of survival without passing judgement on the duo<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2629\" src=\"https:\/\/aini.pk\/wp-content\/uploads\/chinese-movie-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Science-fiction is generally known for its big, fantastic visuals\u2014think Blade Runner 2049, Interstellar, Arrival, and even The wandering Earth<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0to name a few. The Last Sunrise defines its own sub-category, one that capitalizes on gentle, subtler moments to highlight the dynamics between its two protagonists.
